Members of the Green Affordable Housing Coalition submitted a letter to Secretary Shaun Donovan on February 3rd which urges the current administration to take an active approach in advancing energy efficiency in affordable housing. The letter is in response to the release of Better Buildings through Executive Action - An Update and Look Forward, and describes actions that the federal government can take utilizing existing legal authorities, which would address the need for energy efficiency and sustainability. No authorization or funding is needed from Congress for these actions to take place. The letter also lists the potential benefits of increasing energy efficiency in the affordable housing sector such as: improving quality of life for households, utility cost savings, and better connection to economic opportunities.
